Killantringan lighthouse
Killantringan was the first lighthouse I was sent to as a supernumery
keeper. It is about 3 miles from Port Patrick
on the Rhins of Galloway Coast. Like Port Patrick it is about 18 miles form the coast of Northern Ireland. The light was discontinued
in 2007

Sule Skerry lighthouse
Sule Skerry is the most remote lighthouse in Britain and
lies at the entence to the Pentland Firth. It is not a family Station as is classified as a Rock Relieving Lighthouse. The keepers served 4 weeks on and 4 weeks off. Their dwelling houses
were in the Orkney town of Stromness where they were joined by keepers and their families from the other Pentland Rock Stations
of Stroma, Copinsay and Pentland Skerries.

Ruvaal lighthouse
Ruvaal is at the northern end of the Sound of Islay. There
is no road to it and the keepers were taken up the Sound by boat. The Shore Station for the families was in Bowmore. There is some magnificent scenery looking down the Sound and across
the Jura.Unusual in lighthouses the tower is more slender than its other counterparts on Islay.

Barra Head lighthouse
Barra Head lighthousse is the highest lightouse above sea
level at a height of 694 feet. The island that it
is built on is called Berneray and it is the southernmost of the island chain that makes up the Outer Herbrides. Castle Bay
on Barra is the nearest significant town. There is a steep climb from the landing all the way up to the light with no break
in gradient. As a Rock Releiving Station the families lived in Oban and the lighthouse was relieved by helicopter.

Holburn Head lighthouse
Holburn Head was a one man station and lies in Thurso Bay
just up from the ferry terminal at Scrabster. Across the bay lies Dunnet Head lighthouse and Dunnet is the most northerly
point on the British Mainland.
